A Village Cookbook – featuring ‘tried and tasted’ recipes contributed by the good folk of Ovingdean
After months of work it’s finally ready – our own village cookbook! With over ninety favourite, ‘tried and tasted’ recipes straight from kitchens in our local area it’s a microcosm of how we cook now. It has recipes for everyday cooking and special occasions, and some suitable for special diets. We hope you’ll find in it recipes you’ll turn to again and again.
Many recipes have been handed down through families over the generations or cooked for gatherings in the Village Hall. It’s a touching reminder that, at its best, food is about caring and sharing good things with family, friends and neighbours – it helps build community and is at the heart of community.
The book is priced at just £5, A5 size and full-colour with recipes for cakes, biscuits, breads and savoury bakes; lunches and suppers, puddings and tarts; and other delicious things. It will make a great present for Christmas or another occasion – a present with heart as all proceeds will go to support the upkeep and outreach of St Wulfran’s, our beautiful and historic church.
My grateful thanks go to the big-hearted contributors who kindly donated their favourite recipes, to Jay Butler who so generously gave his professional input on the design and artwork, and to Val Rowden who helped with proof reading. It has been a great team effort!
