We thought you would want to know of a Church of England initiative to support the work of the UN Conference on Climate Change to be held in Paris at the end of November. The Church of England (working with Christian Aid, Tearfund and Cafod) is organising a Pilgrimage to Paris leaving London tomorrow (Friday 13th November) and walking to Paris over the next two weeks (via a sea crossing from Newhaven!) to arrive in time for the start of the conference. This is part of an international pilgrimage of witness and we’re delighted that Barry Sugg from St Wulfran’s is planning to do the whole of the challenging 2 week walk London to Paris!
The hope is that the huge number of nations attending those talks will be able to reach binding agreements on ways to further limit our reliance on fossil fuels and other human activities that are causing great damage to the environment and bringing the threat of disaster to many of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable communities. There are some real signs of hope that an agreement this time will be able to go much further than the existing agreement that runs out in 2020 – not least because some of the world’s greatest polluters, like America and China, are making more positive noises this time round.
If you would like to know more or keep in touch with the coverage of the event please use the link: www.pilgrimage2paris.org.uk and the Tweet at @pilgrims2paris. I know we will all want to speed Barry on his way with our good wishes and prayers for him and fellow walkers and for the conference. Many thanks for reading this.
