NO COLD Calling peel off window stickers
Every house in Ovingdean is able to have one of these stickers
together with an explanatory letter from Neighbourhood Watch and the Police.
The Police and NHW can’t stress enough the need to display the window stickers in
order to make the scheme successful. No Cold Calling street signs are
being put up in the very near future. It would be much appreciated if
you are able to do this.

ARE YOU COMMUNITY MINDED? Saltdean, Rottingdean and Ovingdean Neighbourhood Watch committee have been working hard to help keep our Villages safe and secure. We are a small committee of seven volunteers who are committed to Neighbourhood Watch! We do not have a representative on the committee from Ovingdean. If you, like us, would like to see your Village remain a low crime area and would like to know more about how our committee works then please do not hesitate to get in touch.
YOUR COMMUNITY NEEDS YOU!!!! Because of ill-health, age or moving from the area, several co-ordinators in Ovingdean have had to resign. The Police inform us that if we are unable to find a replacement co-ordinator it will mean that any NHW member receiving a discount on their home insurance will need to contact their Insurance Company and inform them as they will no longer be entitled to the discount. Are you able to help?? Replacement co-ordinators are required in the following roads to take over existing NHW members’ lists. Dower Close Ainsworth Close Greenways Wanderdown Road We are also looking for co-ordinators in Longhill Road, Ovingdean Close and The Vale to replace a co-ordinator who has moved from the area. At the present time a committee member has taken over the role but this is not ideal and is a temporary solution. Are you the person to take on the role in any of these roads?? The role is not onerous and for a chat and further information about the role please see contact details below,
UPDATE OF THE NHW COMMITTEE COLD CALLING: We have been pressuring the Police for well over a year to introduce No Cold Calling Zones in our three Villages. We are pleased to say that we have been successful in obtaining this in West Saltdean. As Lewes were introducing this in East Saltdean the Police felt West Saltdean was an appropriate starting point. You can be assured that although the Police are saying there is no funding at the present time, we will now continue to work towards Rottingdean & Ovingdean also becoming No Cold Calling Zones.
SPEEDWATCH: Several committee members and NHW members have recently been trained to use the speed gun and will be monitoring several roads in our areas that NHW members have brought to our notice re vehicles speeding. Unfortunately Greenways was seen, by Sussex Safer Roads Partnership, as unsuitable for Speedwatch volunteers to monitoring because of the risk factor and can only be monitored and enforced by the Police. However one of the Roads we will be monitoring is Falmer Road.
JUNIOR NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: We have just completed the second 6 week course of Junior NHW in Saltdean Primary School and a third is planned for the Autumn Term. We will be approaching the Heads of the two Rottingdean Schools in the hope that they too will want to be involved in this very worthwhile project with the young children in our Villages.
You are probably well aware by this time that PCSO Chris Kingswood has moved to another Ward and the PCSO responsible for Ovingdean is Helen Richardson.
